What we keep, and why.
iynbox is getting ready to launch. This page covers the iynbox website, the early list, writer pages and subscribing to them. Our terms are further down. Fuller terms for Studio and paid subscriptions will be added before they open.
Who we are
iynbox (“we”, “us”) decides how your personal data is used here. Contact us about anything on this page at hello@iynbox.com.
What we collect
If you join the early list:
- Your email address, and whether you write, read or advertise.
- The newsletter name you reserve, if you're a writer.
- Who referred you, and how many people you've referred.
- When you joined and confirmed, and a one-way hash of your IP address to stop spam sign-ups.
- Roughly where you signed up from (country and city, worked out from your IP address, which we don't store), your device type and browser, and which site or link sent you.
If you're a writer with a page: what you put on it (newsletter name, the name you write under, description, topic, and any profile picture or banner you upload), and how many people have subscribed. When you upload a picture we resize it and remove hidden information stored in the file, such as the location a phone photo was taken.
If you subscribe to a writer's page: your email address, which newsletter you subscribed to, when you subscribed and confirmed, a one-way hash of your IP address, and which site or link sent you.
If you sponsor or might sponsor iynbox: business contact details (name, job title, work email, company), which we may find on company websites and professional networks such as LinkedIn, our emails with you, and booking and payment records. Card and bank details are handled by our payment provider. We never see them.
If you register a business at business.iynbox.com: your work email, business name, the page name you claim (yourbusiness.iynbox.com), website if you give it, roughly how big your list is and what you send with now, plus the same visit details as other sign-ups (town or city, country, device and where you came from). Once you confirm, your business name and website appear on your reserved page. We use it to hold your place and your page name, to email you about iynbox for Business and when it opens, and to plan what to build. We don't share it, and you can unsubscribe from any of these emails in one click.
Writer pages and subscribers
When you subscribe to a newsletter on iynbox, you're subscribing to that writer. We store your subscription and send you the confirmation email. When the newsletter starts sending, the writer will be able to see your email address so they can send it to you. Writers may only use it for their newsletter on iynbox. Every newsletter email will have a one-click unsubscribe link.
The writer can see how many people have subscribed, and we may show that number on their page. We don't show who has subscribed.
Recent sign-ups bar
Once you confirm, the bar on our home page may briefly show the first letter of your email address, whether you write, read or advertise, and your town or city, for example “H. in Leeds joined as a reader”. We only show a town or city once at least three people from there have joined, and we never show your email address or newsletter name. If you'd rather not appear, email us and we'll take you out.
Visit statistics and cookies
We count visits to this site without cookies: which page, which site linked to it, country and device type. Visitors are counted with a code that changes every day, so we can't recognise you from one day to the next or identify you.
We use no advertising or tracking cookies. We use a few cookies that are strictly necessary: one keeps you signed in to your iynbox account on that device, one lets a writer edit their own page from their private setup link, one remembers that you've entered the Studio beta access code, and one keeps the iynbox team signed in to our admin area.
Signing in: there are no passwords. When you sign in, we email you a 6-digit code that works once, for 10 minutes. We keep a scrambled copy of the code (never the code itself) and a record of the devices you're signed in on, so we can keep you signed in and let you sign out.
Links in our emails: links in emails we send you from iynbox go through a short iynbox address first, so we can see which links people click and improve what we send. We record the click, the time and roughly where it came from. We don't use tracking pixels to see whether you opened an email.
Why we use it
- Your consent: to hold your place on the early list and email you about the launch, and to send you a newsletter you've subscribed to. You can withdraw consent at any time with the unsubscribe link in any email.
- Our legitimate interests: to keep the site secure and free of spam sign-ups, to understand how people find us, and to contact businesses about sponsoring newsletters. You can object at any time and we'll stop.
- A contract with you: to deliver a sponsorship you've booked, or to pay a writer their sponsor share.
- The law: to keep payment and accounting records.
Who processes it
We use a small number of trusted service providers who process data on our behalf, under contracts that only let them use it to provide their service to us:
- website hosting and database providers
- an email delivery provider, to send the emails you've asked for
- a payment provider, for sponsorships and payouts
- our own email and internal messaging tools, which the iynbox team uses to run the service. Internal alerts show things like a new sign-up's role, newsletter name and rough location, never their email address.
If you'd like to know which provider handles a particular kind of data, email us and we'll tell you. Visit statistics stay in our own database.
Some of these providers may process data outside the UK. Where they do, we rely on UK adequacy regulations or the UK's approved contract clauses to keep it protected.
We never sell your data or share it with advertisers. Sponsors don't get readers' details: they get totals, such as sends and clicks, and the newsletters their ad ran in.
How long we keep it
- Early list: until you unsubscribe, or 12 months after launch if you don't create an account, whichever is sooner.
- Newsletter subscriptions: until you unsubscribe, or 12 months after launch if the newsletter never starts sending.
- Unconfirmed sign-ups and subscriptions: deleted once we're sure they won't be confirmed.
- Sponsor contacts: up to two years after we last spoke, unless you ask us to delete them sooner.
- Payment and accounting records: six years, because the law requires it.
If you unsubscribe, we keep your email address on a do-not-email list so we never email you by mistake.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct, delete or move your data, to restrict how we use it, or object to us using it. Email hello@iynbox.com and we'll reply within a month. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Children
iynbox isn't for children under 13. To claim a newsletter name, advertise or receive payouts, you must be 18 or over.
Changes
If we change how we use your data, we'll update this page and its date. If the change is significant, we'll email you first.
Terms · last updated 12 October 2026
The rules, plainly.
These terms apply when you use iynbox.com, join the early list, claim a newsletter name, run a writer page or subscribe to one. By doing any of those, you agree to them. If you're a sponsor, your booking confirmation and invoice also apply.
1. Before launch
iynbox isn't fully open yet. Joining the list and subscribing to writer pages is free. Launch dates, features and prices may change before we open, and we'll tell you by email if they do.
2. Newsletter names and pages
- One name per writer. Names are held for 48 hours until you confirm your email, then they're yours while you follow these terms.
- You can't sell or transfer a name.
- We may refuse, change or reclaim a name that impersonates someone, uses someone else's brand or trademark, is offensive or misleading, or is left unused for a long time after launch. If we can, we'll tell you first and give you the chance to pick another.
- Your page is public. Anyone with the link can see it and subscribe.
3. Your content
You own what you write and the pictures you upload. You give iynbox permission to host them, show them, send them to your subscribers and feature them on iynbox (for example in recommendations and on your share images), for as long as they're on iynbox. You're responsible for making sure you have the right to publish them and that they're lawful. Only upload photos of other people with their permission. Changes to your page, including pictures, go live straight away and are then reviewed by iynbox. We may edit or remove anything that breaks these terms.
4. What's not allowed
You must not use iynbox to publish or send anything illegal, hateful, harassing, sexually explicit, defamatory or deliberately misleading; impersonate anyone; send spam or add people who haven't opted in; buy, swap or fake subscribers; or try to break, overload or scrape the site. We may remove content, pause sending or close an account that breaks these rules. Where it's fair to, we'll warn you first.
5. Subscribing to a newsletter
Subscriptions are confirmed by email and free unless you choose a paid plan once paid subscriptions open. You can unsubscribe at any time with the link in any email. Free editions may carry one sponsor, placed by iynbox and clearly labelled. Paid editions carry none.
6. Sponsor share and payouts
iynbox finds sponsors and places one ad in free editions on matching topics. Writers can earn a share of what sponsors pay for the ads in their sends. This is how it works:
- Eligibility. Only publications with more than 50 free or paid subscribers can earn a sponsor share. Subscribers must be real people who chose to subscribe. We decide the count, and you can see your progress in your account.
- Rate and timing. We set the share rate and the payout schedule, and show them in your account before you earn anything under them. We'll give you notice before changing them.
- Discretion. All sponsor share payouts are made at the discretion of the iynbox content administrator, including whether a payout is made, how much and when. For example, we may withhold, reduce, delay or reclaim a payout if subscribers look fake, bought or incentivised; if your sends have unusually high bounce or spam rates; if your content breaks these terms or our ad policy; if a sponsor disputes or is refunded for delivery; or if your payout details are incomplete.
- Blocking. You can block categories of sponsor. This may mean fewer ads, and less sponsor share, in your editions.
- Payment and tax. Payouts are made through our payment provider to an account in your name. You're responsible for any tax due on what you earn.
7. Sponsors
Every ad is reviewed against the UK Code of Non-broadcast Advertising (the CAP Code) before it runs, and we may refuse or remove any ad. Sponsors don't choose individual newsletters and don't receive readers' personal data. Founding sponsor bookings are governed by your booking confirmation and invoice, including the delivery guarantee and refunds.
8. Our responsibility to you
We work hard to keep iynbox running and your data safe, but while we're pre-launch the site is provided as it is, and features may change or be unavailable at times. We're not responsible for losses that weren't foreseeable, or for loss of business, profit or opportunity. Nothing in these terms limits our liability where the law doesn't allow it to be limited, including for death or personal injury caused by our negligence or for fraud, and nothing affects your legal rights as a consumer.
9. Leaving, and ending things
You can leave at any time: unsubscribe from any email, or ask us to delete your details. We may suspend or close access for anyone who breaks these terms.
10. Changes to these terms
We'll post any changes here and update the date. If a change matters to you, we'll email you before it takes effect.
11. The law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring a claim in your local courts.
